Estrasorb Medication - Uses & Side Effects

Generic Name: Estradiol topical lotion

ESTRADIOL (Estrasorb™) topical emulsion contains a natural estrogen female hormone. Estradiol is essential for maintaining normal female functions and is normally produced by the ovaries. After menopause, the ovaries decrease their production of this hormone. Estradiol is used to relieve symptoms of the menopause such as hot flashes, night sweats, mood changes, and vaginal dryness and irritation.

Estrasorb Dosage

The usual dose is two lotion-filled pouches and you should be applied one to each leg every morning.

Uses of Estrasorb

  • It is used to reduce hot flashes that occur with the "change of life" such as menopause.
  • Estrogens also used to treat other menopause symptoms such as vaginal dryness and to prevent bone loss in people at high risk.

Side Effects of Estrasorb

If you are using Estrasorb, then discuss the side effects of Estrasorb with your doctor and if you feel any develop or change in intensity, then tell your doctor immediately. Because only your doctor can determine if it is safe to continue using Estrasorb. Side effects may include:

  • Abdominal cramps
  • bloating
  • hair loss
  • infection
  • itchy spots
  • nausea and vomiting
  • sinus inflammation

Warnings and precautions before taking Estrasorb:

  • Before taking estradiol, you should tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it or if you have any other allergies.
  • Consult your doctor before using this medicine, if you have undiagnosed abnormal vaginal bleeding, certain cancers such as breast cancer, especially non-metastatic type.
  • Before using this medication, you should tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially if you have asthma, diabetes, seizures, migraine headaches, heart disease, kidney disease, low thyroid hormone, abnormal calcium level in the blood, depression.

Drug Interaction:- If you are taking certain drugs with Estrasorb, then it may be increased, decreased, or altered the effects of Estrasorb. Discuss with your doctor before combining Estrasorb with the following:

  • Carbamazepine (Tegretol)
  • Erythromycin (E-Mycin, Ery-Tab, Erythrocin)
  • Grapefruit juice
  • Itraconazole (Sporanox)
  • Ketoconazole (Nizoral)
  • Phenobarbital
  • Rifampin
Overdose

After taking Estrasorb, If you feel that overdose is suspected, then contact with your doctor immediately. Symptoms of Estrasorb overdose may include:

  • nausea
  • vomiting
  • vaginal bleeding
