Flomax Medication - Uses & Side EffectsGeneric Name: Tamsulosin hydrochloride Flomax is in a class of drugs known as alpha-adrenergic blockers. TAMSULOSIN (Flomax®) is used to treat enlargement of the prostate gland in men. It is not for use in women. It works by relaxing muscles in the prostate and bladder neck at the site of the obstruction. This improves urine flow and reduces BPH symptoms. This medication should not be used to treat high blood pressure. Flomax DosageThe usual starting dose of Flomax is 1 capsule (0.4 milligram) daily, half an hour following the same meal each day.
