Micardis Medication - Uses & Side Effects

Generic Name: Telmisartan

Telmisartan is used alone or in combination with other medications to treat high blood pressure. Telmisartan is in a class of medications known as angiotensin II receptor antagonists. It works by blocking the action of certain chemicals that tighten the blood vessels, so blood flows more smoothly. It works by blocking the effects of a hormone known as angiotensin II.

Micardis Dosage

The usual starting dose is 40 milligrams once a day. Your doctor may increased the dose to a maximum of 80 milligrams daily, if necessary.

Uses of Micardis

  • Telmisartan is used alone or in combination with other medications to treat high blood pressure.
  • Telmisartan is also used sometimes to treat congestive heart failure.

Side Effects of Micardis

If you are using Micardis, then discuss the side effects of Micardis with your doctor and if you feel any develop or change in intensity, then tell your doctor immediately. Because only your doctor can determine if it is safe to continue using Micardis. Side effects may include:

  • Back pain
  • diarrhea
  • respiratory tract infection
  • sinus inflammation
  • Abdominal pain
  • chest pain
  • cough
  • dizziness
  • fatigue
  • flu-like symptoms
  • headache
  • high blood pressure
  • indigestion
  • muscle aches
  • nausea
  • pain

Warnings and precautions before taking Micardis:

  • If you have liver or kidney disease, then you should be used Micardis with caution.
  • If you are taking prescription and nonprescription medications, vitamins, nutritional supplements, and herbal products such as anticoagulants such as warfarin, digoxin and diuretics, then you should tell your doctor and pharmacist. Because your doctor may need to change the doses of your medications or monitor you carefully for side effects.
  • If you are taking Micardis, then this drug may make you dizzy; use caution engaging in activities requiring alertness such as driving or using machinery

Drug Interaction:- If you are taking certain drugs with Micardis, then it may be increased, decreased, or altered the effects of Micardis. So it is especially important to check with your doctor before combining Micardis with the following:

  • Digoxin (Lanoxin)
  • Warfarin (Coumadin)
Overdose

After taking Micardis, If you feel that overdose is suspected, then contact with your doctor immediately. Symptoms of Micardis overdose may include:

  • Abnormally rapid or slow heartbeat
  • dizziness,
